Nigeria - Fighter Jets, Over 2,000 Soldiers Storm Maiduguri In Renewed Boko Haram Clamp Down

Deployment follows state of emergency declaration by president in three states where Boko Haram have stepped up attacks.
Nigerian troops have moved into cities in the northeast where President Goodluck Jonathan has declared a state of emergency as part of a campaign to rein in the armed group Boko Haram.
Residents said they had seen six army lorries ferrying soldiers into the cities of Yola, capital of Adamawa state, and Maiduguri, according to the Reuters news agency.
Jonathan, whose government has been battling Boko Haram fighters for years with limited success, declared the state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa on Tuesday during a televised address.
The group has recently stepped up attacks on government installations and security forces and is understood to control substantial territory around Lake Chad, where local officials have fled.
Reuters reported shops and schools were mostly shut and there were few people on the streets as troops made their way into the cities.
"What I saw this morning scared me," said one man in Maiduguri, Ahmed Mari. "I have never seen soldiers on the move quite like this before."
Another man, Kabir Laoye, voiced widespread fears that civilians could be caught up in the conflict. "There is a lot of apprehension about the state of emergency," he said.
Military officials in the northeast, and at headquarters in Abuja, the capital, were not immediately available for comment.

When on April 22 1990 Major Given Orkar told Nigerians that 5 states do not belong to Nigeria , they should be excised, the visionary Major and his soldiers were promptly arrested ested and executed.
ReplyDeleteMy thought then was that the Nigerian state has made a mistake. The Major should have been given enough time to state his reasons. The Major was aware the coupe has leaked to government, yet rather than run away trough Saki his duty post, he decided to go ahead with the suicidal act. His mission---- to give us a window into his mind and thoughts. He must have believed in his judgements.
Twenty- three years after we have Boko nonsense requesting for an Islamic north to be constituted by? (Not the 5 states of Orkar?) Where are the sponsors from? (Not Orkar's 5 states?) Nigeria's headache today not them?
May Major Gideon Orkar and his soldiers continue to rest in peace.
Hopefully when our children's children will be writing the history of Nigeria, his action will be judged appropriately.
They will wait you out or create terror somewhere else. Just take the offer and let us get the separation offer from the north. We should do it now before it gets to war.
ReplyDeleteIf the FG is capable to war against Boko Haram that's okay and fine because I need no prophet to tell me that Nigeria is a war torn nation as long as their leader is alife.
ReplyDeleteThat their leader/Boko Haram should be tracked down if FG is tired of burying his force men ;when is he crushed then his followers will scatter that's the solution that demon can't continue threatening the entire nation!
