As the world anxiously awaits the 2014 FIFA World Cup semifinals, which kick off Tuesday, Kenyans are counting their losses from the global football extravaganza, media reported on Monday.
In Awendo, western Kenya, two football fans lost their lives following a quarrel during the quarter-final match between Brazil and Colombia.
The two, watching the match in a bar, disagreed as each supported a different team, at the end of match, the altercation continued outside the social joint.
Report says suddenly, the older man, a 45-year-old, grabbed a knife and stabbed the younger man, a 25-year-old to death.
It said that an angry mob then descended on the killer, beat him to death and took to their heels.
In Kericho, also in western Kenya, students angered by the Gelegele Boys Secondary School’s decision to stop them from watching the World Cup quarterfinal match between Argentina and Belgium burnt down the school dormitories.
All the five African teams in the competition have since been eliminated, but that has not prevented African fans from following the proceedings.
