ZIMBABWE: Mugabe's Wife Goes Abroad For Medical Treatment

First Lady Grace Mugabe is reportedly seeking treatment abroad with her failing health said to be increasingly worrying her 91-year-old husband.
Grace, also secretary for the Zanu PF women's league, has not been seen at her husband's side and, unusually, missed his recent foreign jaunts to Namibia and Algeria.
She has also not been seen in public lately and missed the weekend centenary celebrations at Kutama College in Zvimba where her husband admitted that he was having sleepless nights.
Party officials also said Grace has only visited the Zanu PF headquarters once since returning from Singapore where, according to the husband, she underwent surgery to remove her appendix.
President Mugabe recently said his wife was not strong as she was still recovering from the procedure.
However, government sources this week said the First Lady was very poorly and had left the country for treatment in Dubai where her elder son Robert Jr is also based.
Concern about her health was stoked by images of daughter, Bona, at President Robert Mugabe's side during meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Mugabe, weakened by age and reported ill-health, constantly needs his wife for support to avoid such mishaps as happened at Harare airport when he lost his footing and tumbled to the ground.
Attempts to get a comment from presidential spokesperson, George Charamba failed Tuesday.
On Monday he had refused to comment on the matter saying "why are you guys obsessed with such a story".
Zanu PF sources say the First Lady's health problems have not been helped by the fact she is superstitious and believes that former vice president Joice Mujuru is bewitching her.
President Mugabe also claimed that Mujuru consulted Nigerian occultists in her bid to topple him from power.
Grace played a key role in Mujuru's ouster from both the government and the ruling party after staging nationwide rallies where she accused her of corruption, incompetence and plotting a coup against Mugabe.
