Burundi Army Spokesman Confirms Troops Killed in Al-Shabaab Raid

Burundi Military Spokesman Colonel Gaspard Baratuza has confirmed that his country has lost soldiers in Al Shabaab attack on AMISOM base in Somalia.

Al Shabaab said it has killed over 50 African union soldiers in Lego near the capital Mogadishu on Friday.

AMISOM confirmed the attack through its official twitter account but did not give number of casualties.

Speaking to DPA Germany News Agency in Burundi capital Bujumbura, Colonel Gaspard Baratuza has said 50 Burundian soldiers have lost their lives in the Friday attack without giving further details on injuries.

Al Shabaab Spokesman Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage earlier on Friday gave similar number to the media which he said were killed during assault on AMISOM in Lego, 100 kilometer south of Mogadishu.

Reports say AMISOM soldiers are preparing for counter offensive attack against Al Shabaab which residents in the area said are still in the town.

On the other hand eyewitness have also reported Al Shabaab reinforcement in the area for possible AMISOM offensive.
