FIFA has handed a lifetime ban to former General Secretary of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football, Chuck Blazer.

Blazer was expelled by FIFA ethics committee for widespread corruption and bribery.

Blazer had pled guilty to racketeering and and tax evasion to charges from US federal agencies, and his expulsion from the football-governing body was only a formality.

“(Blazer) was a key player in schemes involving the offer, acceptance, payment and receipt of undisclosed and illegal payments, bribes and kickbacks as well as other money-making schemes,” the FIFA ethics committee said in a statement.

Blazer pleaded guilty to 10 counts including racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy and income tax evasion.

Blazer was a high-ranking official during his active days, serving on FIFA’s executive panel for 16 years.

The investigation had begun in 2012 after corrupt financial management was exposed in the CONCACAF.
