The Police at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region on Friday intercepted a bus loaded with 32 boxes of ammunition en route to Bunkprugu in the Northern Region.
According to the police, the bus, with registration number GE 1152 P, which was travelling from Kumasi, was stopped at Kintampo upon a tipoff.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Brong Ahafo Police, Assistant Police Superintendent (ASP) Christopher Tawiah explained on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Tuesday that the owner of the consignment, Suuk Kanbari, 41, and the driver, Collan Kanbari, 36, and one other person Suvum Kolan, were initially arrested, but Suuk Kanbari managed to escape but was re-arrested the following day.
A search conducted by the police revealed that the consignment was made up of 800 pieces of ammunition.
ASP Tawiah said the suspects had been transferred to the Regional Police Headquarters for further interrogation and prosecution.
