Mali coach Alain Giresse has released the names of a 23-man squad ahead of their friendly game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Rouen, France on May 27.
The Mali national team are also scheduled to face South Sudan in a decisive Group C Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on June 3; hence Giresse has put that in consideration in drawing up his list for the Nigeria friendly.
As reported on Afrik-Foot; Youssouf Kone (defender), Toulouse’s Tongo Doumbia (midfielder), Nantes’ Birama Toure (midfielder) Udinese’s Molla Wague (defender), Lille’s and Guingamp’s Sambou Yatabare (striker) have all been ruled out of the clash against the Super Eagles for varying reasons.
Regardless of the high profile absentees, Girese has drawn up a roster of 20 foreign-based and three domestic league players for the friendly.
The French Coach did not give reasons for leaving the established players out of the encounter, it was learnt that some of them pleaded with him to leave them out to enable them to take a rest after a busy season in Europe.
