Nigerian jailed for beating girlfriend in Cambodia

A Nigerian man based in Cambodia, Kingsley Nshiodo, has been sentenced to two years in prison for allegedly beating up his girlfriend and threatening to stab her, for refusing to allow him have sex with her, Asia Times reports.

The 34-year-old Nshiodo was sentenced by a Phnom Penh Municipal Court, on July 5, for the assault on the lady who is a citizen of the Asian country when she refused to allow him have his way with her last year, court officials say.

District penal police officer, Ly Rithy, told the court that Nshiodo was arrested by police in the early hours of December 28 2015, in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district, after his girlfriend, 19-year-old waitress, Chan Sreyneang, contacted police complaining he had beaten and threatened to stab her.

"Ms Chan Sreyneang had gone to visit Mr Kingsley Nshiodo at the apartment they shared in Toul Kork village after a recent falling out, when he had become enraged when she refused to have sex with him.

He got angry with the victim for refusing to sleep with him. He then beat her and also threatened to stab her, causing her injuries," Rithy told the court.

While delivering the sentence, the presiding judge, Yen Saroeun, said Nshiodo would also be fined about $1,000 after being charged with an act of violence with aggravating circumstances under article of 218 of the Penal Code.

"The court convicted him to two years, but the term of his punishment is reduced to a year. The rest of his sentence was suspended.

The court fines him 4 million riel [about $1,000] to put toward the state budget," Judge Saroeun ruled.
