Nollywood: Mercy Johnson reveals why she adores Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve Nnaji is more than just a name in the Nigerian showbiz industry, it is a brand on its own. Although the actress has had less time on the screen, she is still considered on of the top actresses in Nigerian and the rest of Africa as well.


Another popular actress that dominates the industry is Mercy Johnson, who only recently took a break from acting to focus on her family. However, the actress in a recent interview explained how she had been a big fan of Genevieve Nnaji and recounted an awkward incident the first time she was supposed to meet the actress.

Mercy Johnson stated that the first time she was to meet Genevieve Nnaji, she could not stop fidgeting and ended up hiding in the car boot of a friend who accompanied her.

She added that the second time was just as awkward, but it eventually paid off as Genevieve became her mentor anytime they worked together. She said, "...the 2nd time I saw her was on set. When she came down, and I met her, she said ahh! Mercy I like your movies, and I started crying. I was in tears of joy. I said Aunty Genevieve, so you watch my movies. She was sort of embarrassed. Before I met her, she had already known that there was somebody who was crazily insane about her. She was really nice to me, receptive. And even whenever we work together she will correct me and say that thing you did, you could have done it this way.”
