Manchester United and Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly has said that he hopes to return from injury in two months.

The Elephant centre-back suffered a knee injury in the first half of United’s 4-0 whipping at the hands of Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manager Jose Mourinho said after the match that he feared Bailly had suffered a “really bad” knee ligament injury.

The player has since taken to social media to thank fans for their support and set a two-month time frame for his return to first team action.

"I wanted to thank you for all the messages of support that I received since the injury!" Bailly wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.

"I hope to be able to play again for United and The Elephants before 2 months, God willing. Thanks for always being there!”

Bailly will miss tonight’s League Cup match against Manchester City, as well as key Premier League clashes with Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham – amongst other matches – in his spell on the sidelines, but he is still expected to be included in Ivory Coast’s squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.
