Next King of Thailand, a playboy millionaire

On October 13, 2016, the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away.



A day before, his son and heir apparent Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn flew back to the country to be at his side. If all goes according to plan Maha Vajiralongkorn will be the next King of Thailand.


It has been announced that the crown prince will ascend the throne in 2017 and not immediately because he wants to mourn his father along with his fellow countrymen.

Maha Vajiralongkorn being the next king of the Asian country doesn't excite many Thai people. You see the crown prince has a serious image problem. He is seen as an eccentric brat and playboy who has been married three times.

Born in 1952, the 64-year-old prince is not seen as the man of the people like his father. With an educational background overseas, Vajiralongkorn got married to his cousin in 1977. During his marriage, he fathered five children with his mistress Yuvadhida Polpraserth who he later married.

In 1996, the marriage turned sour. Prince Maha took his daughter while Polpraseth took the four boys with her to America after she was accused of adultery by the crown prince. Prince Maha went ahead to strip his sons of any royal benefits. They presently live with their mother in America as commoners.

In 2001, Prince Maha got married to Srirasmi Suwadee. She gave birth to a son in 2005 who is regarded as the prince's heir. By 2014 things turned sour again as the Crown Prince stripped his wife of all royal benefits and ended the marriage. Suwadee's parents were imprisoned for royal defamation for 30 months.

The Crown Prince of Thailand is presently dating a Thai air hostess who he plans on marrying.

Apart from his crazy marriages, Prince Maha is eccentric in every sense of the word. He once had a pet poodle who had the title of Air Chief Marshal in the Royal Thai Air Force. The poodle attended official functions. In 2015 Foo Foo the peddle died and it was given a four-day funeral.

Elites and commoners do not like the prince who once showed up at the airport in a tank top and skinny jeans with his huge tattoos showing. The political establishment is not fond of the prince because of his close ties to the ousted former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The close bond between the two was the main reason behind the attempted coups in 2006 and 2014.

Most people in Thailand prefer the prince's sister, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhornn but succession laws forbid a woman ascending the throne.

For now, the world has to wait to see if Prince Maha matures within the next one year
