As preparations for Miss Curvy slated for August 9 at Moth Camp in Kariba gather momentum, event organisers will today host auditions to trim the number of contestants from Harare. The pageant that celebrates and recognises curvy African women will run under the theme "Supporting Domestic Tourism through Beauty Pageants".
ZimGossip Models director and the event organiser Mercy "Catwalk" Mushaninga said the auditions are meant to meet the targeted number.
"We will conduct auditions again tomorrow (today) at our office since there are 38 contestants from Harare instead of 12. We will be doing thorough interviews with them and we are mainly focusing on their intelligence and passion for modelling," she said.
So far they have registered 46 beauties from across the country with Bulawayo having three, Kariba and Gweru having two models each, Bindura sending one while Harare has 38. Mushaninga said this time the one week-long boot camp will be like a reality show where the activities will be on camera for 18 hours.
"This time our event is of better standard and the models will get into the boot camp on August 4.We decided to come up with this because we want the world to know what will be happening in boot camp so that they understand better why some people are chosen to be the winners," she said.
Urban grooves musician Roki, Judgement Yard, BaShupi among others are billed to perform at bush braai pre-party a day before the grand finale.
Unlike other pageants that celebrate slenderness and pretty faces, Miss Curvy Zimbabwe seeks to celebrate and recognise the curvaceous African women.
Mushaninga launched the pageant after she realised that most curvy women shied away from modelling because of the perception that the profession was for tall and slender women.
According to her, any woman who has natural curves, physical beauty with "brains" and keeps a flat tummy is eligible to enter the pageant as they do not need to have a serious modelling background.
