A man was jailed for drinking poison after his wife did not allow him to go to a concert.

The man of Gokwe, Zimbabwe, swallowed pesticides after his wife blocked him from attending the concert of singer Alick Macheso.

25-year-old Ismael Miti tried to commit suicide after he had a fight with his wife, Sheila Tarugarira.

The court heard that while fighting, Tarugarira told her husband that she was divorcing him. He became furious and drank pesticides.

Miti then suffered stomach cramps, diarrhea, and had a strong headache. He called police and said that his wife poisoned him.

After investigating, police determined that Miti took the poison by himself.

Miti was arrested, and he pleaded guilty to deliberately supplying false information to a public authority.

Magistrate Collen Chiruma sentenced him to pay a fine of $50 or face 20 days in jail.
