South African national team coach Shakes Mashaba says he is encouraged by the fact that he previously defeated Senegal.

As both nations get ready to meet in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month, Mashaba draws courage from their 1-0 friendly international win.

Orlando Pirates' Mpho Makola netted the only goal in September last year and the hosts will hope to defeat the Lions of Teranga once again.

The upcoming Group D clash is scheduled to be staged at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane Saturday, 12 November.

Furthermore, the coach also indicated their desperation for goals and will hope to see the newcomer Lars Veldwijk of KV Kortrjk to solve the goal drought.

“What gives us a little bit of courage is that if we beat them we will unseat them at the top of the log. We will be ready for them,” said Mashaba to Daily Sun.

“Senegal plays from the first until the last whistle that is the biggest thing that I have learned about them.

“We’re desperate for goals and in Lars we believe that we have found an answer to our problem. He is tall and can score goals.

“He can also hold the ball. (Daine) Klate will assist us with qualify crosses from the left that is an area where we are found wanting.”
