Mark Zuckerberg‘s good week just got better. On Saturday, he married longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan.
After watching the company he cofounded go public on Friday, the Facebook CEO changed his status on his personal profile page to “married.” According to the Associated Press, the 28-year-old Zuckerberg and the 27-year old Chan exchanged their vows at a small ceremony at the groom’s home in Palo Alto, Calif. There were fewer than 100 people at the event, including Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg.
Zuckerberg did not wear a hoodie, and, in a photo posted on his Facebook page, was wearing a dark blue suit and tie.
Chan dressed in a white gown, and had just graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco last week. The AP reported that the guests were originally invited to a graduation celebration for Chan, but were surprised to learn that it was, in fact, a wedding.
Forbes’ Brian Caulfield first reported on Friday that Zuckerberg seemed to be preparing for a party at his five-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom home in the Bay Area suburb. On Friday, a truck from Hartmann Studios, a thirty-year old company is known for staging high-end weddings, fundraisers, and corporate events, was parked in the driveway of the home.
According to David Kirkpatrick‘s book, The Facebook Effect, Zuckerberg met Chan while in line to use the bathroom at a Harvard University party. The pair dated on and off again in college, but maintained a relationship as the Facebook CEO rose in prominence in the technology world.
Zuckerberg, whose Facebook stake is worth about $16.9 billion, rang the bell from his company’s Menlo Park, Calif.-based headquarters yesterday to announce Facebook’s first day of trading on the Nasdaq. The IPO price was set at $38 dollars, and the social networking company’ stock price closed on Friday at $38.23.
Zuckerberg cofounded Facebook from his Harvard dorm room in 2004. It is now one of the largest companies in the world.
