'Amazing Spider-Man' Finishes Weekend With $62M

"The Amazing Spider-Man" had a slightly slower start at the box office than initially estimated, taking in USD 62 million domestically over opening weekend.

The final numbers Monday came in USD 3 million lower than the USD 65 million that distributor Sony had projected a day earlier, but it still was a healthy start for the new take on the Marvel Comics superhero, reports The Associated Press.

Since opening last Tuesday, "The Amazing Spider-Man" has taken in USD 137 million domestically. Its worldwide total is about USD 340 million since it began rolling out overseas the previous week.

The top 20 movies at U.S. and Canadian theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled Monday by Hollywood.com are:
