Everything You Need To Know About The NBA’s First Gay Player, Jason Collins

NBA free agent Jason Collins shocked the world today by coming out as the first openly gay athlete in major American sports. 
He didn’t just do it in any old fashion, either, as Jason put out his very own Sport’s Illustrated editorial, sharing his story on the struggles he overcame as a gay black man in professional sports.

In it, he reveals some excellent insight into the mind of a man who works in a such a homophobic profession, and how he finally found the courage to set himself free. 

He even cited the Boston Marathon bombings as a big reason for not waiting for the perfect circumstances for him to come out.

This was a bold move by the 34-year-old power forward who has also a twin brother in the league and last played for the Washington Wizards. 

It was by no means an easy issue for him to deal with, as he proved to have great courage and audacity to put himself out there for judgment.

So what was the general reaction of this big news? Absolutely positive. Athletes and people everywhere, from Kobe Bryant and Bill Clinton have come out to fully pledge their support to Collins.

This is truly inspiring to see and hopefully this will motivate other gay athletes to free themselves just like Jason did. It’s 2013, and there is no reason a man cannot do his job just because of his sexual preference. 

But as we all know, not all good could come from this. There were a few haters out there, and thanks to Twitter and ESPN, they went out and spoke their minds, foolishly, I might add.
