Woman set on fire for giving birth to girls only

 

The family of a Nigerian woman are blaming her estranged husband for the gruesome incident which left her with severe burn wounds

According to Nigeria’s Daily Independent paper, Paul Nwakpuke is suspected of being behind a group of hired assassins who set his wife, Monica Nwakpuke on fire in an attempt to kill her.


Sources told the paper that the mother of four had been kidnapped from her home at night when she went out to use the toilet. It was then that the men allegedly grabbed her, beat her up and drove off with her.

“Another source who pleaded anonymity said that Monica was brought down from the motorcycle, stripped naked and blindfolded after which they poured fuel on her and set her ablaze,” dailyindependentnig.com wrote.

“When they discovered that she had been severely burnt to the extent that she may not survive it, they abandoned her and escaped, the source was quoted saying.

According to the report the woman had left her marital home earlier this year to go live with her parents after having numerous fights with her husband over her ‘inability’ to bear him a male child.
Passersby found her and took her to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki where she is said to be in a critical condition.

The victim's younger brother, Sunday Nwigbo has reportedly told the media that he believes Nwakpuke was behind the ‘hit’ on his sister.

Nwakpuke is reportedly on the run.
