Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of Namibia, has revealed that plans to construct the road have reached an advanced stage.

The section of the road is part of the Rundu-Nkurenkuru-Elundu trunk road, which connects to the Trans-Zambezi highway, the government officials stated.
The road caters to local and international traffic and is significant to Namibia’s economy as it serves as a link to other Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries, added Pohamba.
The Oshikango-Katwitwi road is among several road projects in the surrounding region that would benefit the locals. Other projects include the Elundu-Eenhana Road, which has already been upgraded to bitumen from gravel. The Omafo-Ongenga-Outapi Road, Oshigambo-Eenhana Road and Onunho-Endola-Okatana Road would also be upgraded to bitumen shortly.
In their efforts to boost connectivity to Angola, Pohamba said that the government also plans to extend the railway line from Ondangwa to Oshikango, where the Theofilus Hamutumbangela station has been constructed.
