NIGERIA: I am a Betrayer, Governor Lamido Replies Kwankwaso

Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has admitted that he betrayed five other People's Democratic Party (PDP) governors who defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), in 2013.

The governors are Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Abdulfatai Ahmed (Kwara) and former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako.

Governor Kwankwaso had on Monday declared that his Jigawa and Niger State counterparts, Sule Lamido and Babangida Aliyu are not supposed to criticize his exit alongside some of his colleagues from the PDP to the APC.

He said the two governors were part and parcel of the decision to ditch the PDP but failed to do so at the eleventh hour for reasons best known to them.

He particularly noted that Governor Lamido was the leader of the G5 who took the rest of the governors to the level that they couldn't return to the PDP.

But reacting when he paid a visit to the national leadership of the party on Tuesday in Abuja, Lamido said that he betrayed the governors but declined further comments on the development.

"I am a betrayer, confirmed. I betrayed them. I did, yes. I am aligning myself to what he said. I am aligning my answer to what he said. Go and find out from him.

"You have a father and a son, you do not come between a father and a son. You do not go out in the open to insult your father, It is our business, so leave it. You are not his own son, he is our own father, so leave us alone please," he said.

On whether he is still consulting for subsequent defection, Lamido said: "you see, sometimes you people have to listen to mischief. Amaechi and I are very good friends and colleagues, PDP or no PDP; as Nigerians. So if Amaechi comes to me, we have to look at issues pertaining to this country. How popular is the APC, how?"

On his part, PDP national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh said Lamido's visit was to iron out matters concerning the progress of the party but refused to disclose the issues to the press.
