Expensive cars stolen from UK, smuggled into Kenya

Most of the expensive cars driven in Kenya were stolen for the United Kingdom, a report has claimed.

According to The Economist, at least 79 000 vehicles were stolen in Britain last year.

The British weekly magazine further indicated that 80% of these cars ended up in the east and central Africa.

Other reports said that that Uganda and Oman were the prime markets for these stolen cars.

Out of the 79 000 stolen last year, around 28 had allegedly been traced to Uganda, having passed through the corrupt customs officials at the Mombasa Port in Kenya.

Kenya Revenue Authority confirmed that unscrupulous businessmen had in the past smuggled high-end vehicles from Europe through the Mombasa Port with the sole aim of evading tax Standard reported.
