Algeria exit Rio 2016 Olympics

Algeria recorded their second successive loss at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday night.

Goals from Angel Correa and Jonathan Calleri handed Argentina a hard-fought 2-1 win over Algeria whose consolation goal was netted by Sofiane Bendebka.

The win took the South American giants to the top of the Group D standings, while the Africans remain at the bottom of the group and they are eliminated.

Even though, Argentina launched several attacks in search of goals in the opening stages of the game, Algeria contained them.

Just before the half-time, Victor Cuesta, Argentina's influential captain, received his second yellow card and he was sent-off.

However, the South Americans did take the lead a few minutes after the restart and it was Angel Correa who made it 1-0 to Argentina.

Sofiane Bendebka restored parity just after the hour mark for Algeria and this was the forward's second goal at the Rio Olympic Games.

Algeria were also reduced to ten men a few minutes later when Ayoub Abdellaoui was sent off for collecting his second yellow card.

Nevertheless, with 20 minutes left on the clock, Jonathan Calleri sealed Argentina's 2-1 win when he beat Farid Chaal in Algeria goal with a good finish.
