The Ghana Football Association is working on securing a friendly match against the United States of America set to take place in October.

The Ghanaian website reports that “several sources from the US Soccer Federation and players within the Ghana team have also confirmed that talks are far advanced for the game”.

Should the match be confirmed, it will take place on October 11 in Washington at the RFK Stadium.

The fixture would arrive four days after the USA’s friendly against Cuba on October 7.

"We're working on a second October game," US Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe told ESPNFC.com on Monday. "But nothing has been finalised yet."

Ghana and the USA have a remarkable rivalry, with the teams having clashed at the last three World Cups.

In Germany 2006, the Black Stars defeated America 2-1 in the group stage in Nuremburg to deny them a place in the knockout rounds.

Four years later in South Africa, Ghana claimed another win by the same score line (but after extra time) in a last 16 clash in Rustenburg.

And two years ago in Brazil the Americans claimed revenge with a 2-1 win in a group stage match in Natal.
