Leicester City In Talks To Sign Algerian Islam Slimani
Premier League champions Leicester City are engaged in talks to sign Algerian striker Islam Slimani from Portuguese giants Sporting.
With the Foxes having made a slow start to the defence of their title and preparing themselves for the challenge of a debut UEFA Champions League campaign, they have identified Slimani as a viable target to add to their squad.
The 28-year-old Fennec Foxes star has been agitating for a move to England, having enjoyed a superb season for Sporting last term in which he scored 27 times and nearly inspired his club to the Primeira Liga title.
According to the Guardian, Leicester have had an initial bid of £25million rejected, with Sporting understood to be holding out for a fee closer to £34million.
Negotiations are ongoing, but they haven’t affected Slimani and Sporting’s form, with the team defeating Porto 2-1 in a league clash on Sunday night. The Algerian played the full 90 minutes and scored his side’s opening goal.
Should the Foxes complete the signing of Slimani, it will see the striker link up with international teammate Riyad Mahrez at the King Power Stadium.
