With two of the continent’s top two sides set to renew their rivalry in the final of the CAF Champions League first leg this coming weekend, Gambian referee Bakary Gassama will be the official for the second leg.
According to media reports, the continent’s top referee has been named to officiate the decisive leg of the final in Egypt involving Mamelodi Sundowns and Zamalek.
The Confederation of African Football has announced that Gassama will be the man in the middle in the second leg of the final as the Brazilians will travel to the North African country.
Pitso Mosimane's side play away in Alexandria on Sunday‚ October 23 in the second leg after hosting this Saturday’s first leg.
Meanwhile, the opening leg this weekend will be manned by Kenya's Davies Omweno as he takes charge of his first major cup final.
He will be assisted by Berhe Tesfagirogis from Eritrea and Theogene Ndagijmana of Rwanda.
Gassama, was also in charge when Sundowns beat the White Knights 1-0 at home in Tshwane in the group phase of the competition in July.
Apart from the club continental tournament, he also handled the 2015 African Nations Cup final between Ghana and the Cote d'Ivoire in Equatorial Guinea.
He was also named as the continent’s best referee at the annual Confederation of African Football Awards in 2015.
The 37-year-old formed part of the referees committee in the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
For the second leg of the Champions League, he will be assisted by Jean-Claude Birumushahu of Burundi and Marwa Range of Kenya at El Borg Stadium.
Furthermore, new Zambia Football Association General Secretary, Ponga Liwewe‚ has been named as the match commissioner.
