Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has announced a minor yet strategic cabinet reshuffle involving the Minister of Power (State) and the Minister Of Niger Delta Affairs (State).
The president earlier today gave two major directives at the Federal Executive Council meeting. The first is the swapping of positions between the two ministers.
President Jonathan also directed that these two ministers should swap positions with effect from next week. In that regard Mr. Darius Dickson Ishaku now becomes the minister of state for Niger Delta Affairs and minister of state for Niger Delta Affairs, Hajia Zainab Kuchi becomes minister of state for Power.
However, AfricaEagle's investigations have revealed that the swap might be as a result of allegations leveled against the Power Minister by members of the Nigerian 'Political Elite'.
AfricaEagle had earlier reported that many of the companies involved in the power bids in Nigeria have little or no power sector experience but are backed by very powerful political interests.
President Jonathan further ordered that the council should not receive fresh memos concerning contracts from November 30th 2012.
The directives where made known to State House correspondents by Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati after the council meeting.
He said that any step taken by the president in the power sector is geared towards strengthening the sector.
Despite holding the world's seventh largest gas reserves, Nigeria only produces a tenth of the amount of electricity as South Africa for a population three times the size.
