Champions League - Dortmund Bludgeon Poor Arsenal

Arsenal were subjected to a torrid night in Germany as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped Borussia Dortmund to a comfortable 2-0 win in Champions League Group D.

In a match that Arsene Wenger will quickly want to forget, Arsenal departed Signal Iduna Park, a ground where they won 2-1 in last season's group stage, bruised and battered after being given a serious runaround by the raw pace of the home side.

In truth, Arsenal were fortunate to escape conceding only two goals with Ciro Immobile running from the halfway line to slot the opener before half-time and the outstanding Aubameyang - who at times seemed to move as fast as Usain Bolt - rounding Wojciech Szczesny to slot home the second just after half-time.

Despite being thoroughly outclassed on the night, Arsenal did fashion some real chances with Danny Welbeck missing three obvious opportunities to give the visiting side some modicum of interest in a one-sided contest that was almost farcical such was the home team's superiority.

Dortmund simply ran amok and totted up 24 shots with Arsenal managing only four. It was a miracle Juergen Klopp's side declared on only two.

KEY MOMENTS

27' - CHANCE! Another glorious chance for Dortmund, but Mkhitaryan lifts the ball over with the goal gaping from eight yards. Szczęsny could not hold the Immobile cross.

29' - CHANCE! Glorious chance for Welbeck at the other end, but he fresh airs his attempt at a volley from four yards out. Lovely run and cross by Gibbs.

39' - CHANCE! Ramsey plays in Welbeck after the striker had been tackled by Durm, but Welbeck knocks the effort a few yards wide as Weidenfeller raced from his line.

44' - GOAL! Dortmund 1-0 Arsenal. Immobile leaves Laurent Koscielny for dead before driving the ball beyond Wojciech Szczesny. Stunning goal after running half the length of the pitch, but that Arsenal defence is shocking.

48' - GOAL! Dortmund 2-0 Arsenal. Aubameyang takes advantage of some more awful defending from a one-two to round Wojciech Szczesny before sliding the ball into the gaping net.

75' - CHANCE! Another chance for Arsenal falls to Welbeck, but he blasts over the bar from 14 yards. Should really be hitting the target there.

83' - CHANCE! Henrik Mkhitaryan runs right through the heart of that Arsenal defence. Needs a last-ditch tackle by Oxlade-Chamberlain to halt a third goal.
