Woman Gives Birth To Heaviest Baby In India
Mother Goga Bai set a new record in India last week when she gave birth to a baby that weighs a whopping 13 pounds, reportedly setting the record for heaviest baby in the country.
The 30-year-old mom gave birth to the big boy via Caesarian on Oct. 1 at a hospital near her hometown of Rajasthan in Northern India. According to Dr. Anamika Agarwal, one of the four doctors who delivered the newborn, he’s certainly in a league of his own when it comes to baby weight.
“He is definitely the heaviest baby in the country. The normal weight of a newborn baby in India is 2.5 to 3.5kg [5 to 7 pounds],” Dr. Agarwal told The Huffington Post.
While the baby had breathing problems at first, both he and his mother are reportedly now in good health.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest baby in the world was born in Italy in 1955 and weighed 22 pounds and 8 ounces. The heaviest baby in America was born in Ohio in 1879 and weighed 22 pounds, but died 11 hours later. The heaviest baby to be born to a healthy mother weighed 15 pounds and 2 ounces, and was born in California in 2014.
