Man chops off brother's hand with machete

A middle-aged man, Jude Boroh, has thrown his Emevor community of Isoko-North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, into confusion and pandemonium after he allegedly chopped off the hand of his brother over a land dispute, Niger Delta Voice reports.

The incident, according to eyewitnesses, occurred on Saturday, July 30, during a meeting involving family members in their attempts to find a lasting solution to the fracas that had been engulfing the family over the land dispute.

It was gathered that the resolution of the extended family on the land dispute which had been lingering for years, did not go down well with some members, which resulted in the incident.

The suspect, said to be a member of the Umutama family, which belonged to the extended Ururoho family in the Emevor community, picked up a machete and attacked the victim, Morgan Ekure, a civil servant with the Delta State Government, who is from the Edivri family, and he ended up with a severed hand.

A senior member of the Edivri family, Edward Ekure, while confirming the incident, said the suspect had always been troublesome and had, before the meeting, threatened to wreak havoc over the land and that the meeting had gone peacefully before the suspect surfaced to attack the victim.

The suspect has however been arrested by the police at the Otor-Owhe Division and the spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Celestina Kalu, has confirmed the development, promising that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations by the police.
