Asamoah Gyan says he is happy to be back in the United Arab Emirates, having signed a one-year loan deal with Al Ahli.

The 30-year-old had fallen out of favour at his Chinese side Shanghai SIPG and looked set to be on the verge of a move to Reading before the deal collapsed – allegedly because the English side wanted Gyan to skip the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars striker has instead penned a deal which sees him move back to the same league where he established himself as a legend for Al Ahli’s rivals Al Ain, scoring 128 goals in 123 matches from 2011 to 2015.

"I want to tell all fans in UAE that I’m back to UAE, I’m back home," Gyan told Kumasi-based Angel FM, as quoted by GHANASoccernet.

"The relationship I had with the people of UAE was fantastic so I want to come back and continue the relationship and also will like to thank the fans of Al Ain so much. We had a great four seasons together.

"I will like to thank the fans and everything they showed me."
