Senegal international Pape Souaré is set to miss the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations after breaking his thighbone in a car crash.

The 26-year-old was airlifted to hospital following a crash on the M4 motorway in London this past Sunday.

Crystal Palace head coach Alan Pardew has since revealed that the Eagles defender faces up to the six months on the sidelines, adding that the Souaré is 'very lucky' to be alive.

"He isn't having the best of times, but we're all very supportive," BBC Sport quoted Pardew as saying. "We love Pape and can't wait to have him back."

Asked how long Souaré will be out of action for the former Newcastle United boss replied: "Four, five months. Maybe six, he should be up and running again.

"I don't think we have any concerns about Pape returning. It was a broken thigh, that should repair as normal."

"It was a terrible accident. We owe a huge debt to the London Air Ambulance and the surgeons who helped him," Pardew concluded.

The former Lille left-back has made 46 Premier League appearances for the Eagles since his move from France to England in January 2015.

Moreover, Pardew has revealed that Bakary Sako is set to feature for the club against Stoke City this weekend.
