Andre Ayew To Captain Ghana In Asamoah Gyan's Absence

West Ham United forward Andre Ayew will captain Ghana in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Egypt on 13 November, with news that Asamoah Gyan has been ruled out of the clash.

The Black Stars skipper looks set to miss the clash after picking up a knock while training with Al Ahli in the United Arab Emirates earlier this week.

Former Sunderland forward, Gyan, has struggled with injuries of late and Avram Grant was hoping to bank on the forward for the crucial clash.

Ayew, who himself recently returned from injury, will step up to the plate with the Hammers attacker to don the armband at the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

The 26-year-old missed Ghana's clash against Uganda last month, watching on from the stands as the Cranes held their hosts to a goalless stalemate in Tamale.

Gyan, though, will be a big miss with the 30-year-old having scored 48 goals in an illustrious international career, spanning 13 years.

The Pharaohs beat Congo 2-1 in Brazzaville to top the standings heading into the second round of fixtures.
