The desire to play in the UEFA Champions League with Leicester City was one of the main reasons Algerian Riyad Mahrez didn’t leave the club.
The Fennec Foxes player snubbed interest from major suitors in the European summer – including Premier League giants Arsenal – to sign a new £100,000-a-week deal with Leicester.
While Leicester have struggled to replicate the form which won them the Premier League title, in the Champions League they have been flying, collecting 10 points from four matches in Group G.
They will look to seal a place in the knockout stages when they host Club Brugge at the King Power Stadium this evening.
“We are winning games in the Champions League — and with zero goals conceded,” said Mahrez.
“When I was younger I wanted to play in this competition, now we're here and doing well. I don't know how far we can go.
“Even when there was speculation in the summer, I was good. I didn't follow it too much.
“I wanted to stay at Leicester to grow up with this team and play in the Champions League with them. I'm happy to be here."
